VT Towns Receive Early Christmas
Christmas came early for some Vermont cities and towns. The Southern Windsor/Windham County Solid Waste Management District voted to return over $379,000 in tipping fees held since 2008 when the VT/NH Solid Waste District was dissolved. On July 27th the district’s board of supervisors voted to release the funds.
Since then board members have been presenting the checks to the towns during selectmen’s meetings.
The towns receiving the funds are Andover ($1,719); Baltimore ($1,051); Cavendish; ($14,786); Chester ($30,764); Grafton ($5,372); Ludlow ($72,435); Plymouth ($8,956); Reading ($3,912); Rockingham ($48,392); Springfield ($111,703); Weathersfield ($24,433); West Windsor ($6,229); and Windsor ($49,441).
New London Walks to School
Motorists in New London should take extra cautious this morning. The Annual Walk to School Day is taking place. The event was established in memory of beloved Recreation Director Chad Denning who was vital in the Pleasant Street sidewalk campaign.
School, college and town volunteers will walk students to school from Colby Sawyer College.
Busy Summer for Boats on Lake Sunapee
It was a busy summer season on Lake Sunapee. Over 3,000 boats were launched from May 8th – Sept. 24th in Sunapee. The statistics come from the NH LAKES Lake Host™ Program* Boater Statistics, but only represent boats launched while a Lake Host was on duty. Boats that were launched when a host was not on duty were not counted. The boat count is from boat launches in Sunapee Harbor, Georges Mills Harbor, and Burkehaven Harbor and is as follows.
Sunapee Harbor – 2, 230 boats launched
Georges Mills Harbor – 969 boats launched
Burkehaven Harbor – 19 boats launched
The Lake Host program also checks for invasive species.
Slayton Hill Road Closure
Slayton Hill Road beneath the overpass in Lebanon will be closed today and tomorrow from 7:00 AM – 5-PM. The Mascoma River Greenway Construction Project will be installing bicycle and pedestrian railing on the Slayton Hill Overpass, requiring street closure under the overpass.
