Accident in Hartford Starts Fire in Dump Truck
An accident on I-89 in Hartford caused a fire in the rear of a dump truck just before noon yesterday. Vermont State Police say a dump truck driven Peter Hackler and carrying hot asphalt was struck by Christopher Smith-Mark’s Subaru crossed the left lane into the right lane. Hartford Fire Department was on scene to assess the threat of the fire that started in the rear of the dump truck after being struck. The passenger car was lodged under the left rear wheels of the dump truck and the right travel lane was closed for over an hour while a wrecker service separated the vehicles. A flatbed wrecker towed the Subaru due to damage. The dump truck was repaired on the scene and was driven from the scene. Neither of the drivers received injuries; however, Smith-Mark was issued a citation for failure to maintain the proper lane.
