Lebanon- At approximately 9:30 AM, Richard Lurvey, 47, of Enfield, New Hampshire was found deceased on the Northern Rail Trail in Lebanon, NH.  It appeared that Lurvey was operating his snowmobile east bound on the Northern Rail Trail in Lebanon when he struck a tree that had fallen across the entire width of the trail. Lurvey suffered fatal injuries during the collision.

Lurvey was reported missing by his mother at approximately 8:30 am to the Canaan Police Department.  Personnel from NH Fish and Game Department were also notified that Lurvey was missing.  Lurvey had left his residence in Enfield on his snowmobile on March 26.  He was planning to return home at the end of the day.  When Lurvey’s mother had not heard from him the next morning and his snowmobile was not at their home she called to report him missing.  Lurvey’s mother told police that her husband, Lurvey’s stepfather, was going to ride his snowmobile on the trails to look for Lurvey.

At around 9:00 am, Lurvey’s stepfather located Lurvey’s snowmobile and his body on the Northern Rail Trail in Lebanon.  Personnel from Lebanon Police, Enfield Police, Canaan Police, and New Hampshire Fish and Game assisted in the investigation.  New Hampshire Fish and Game and personnel from Lebanon Fire and Lebanon Police assisted in removing the body from the scene.  An autopsy on Mr. Lurvey’s body is scheduled.

This crash is still under investigation, however it appears that unreasonable speed for the existing       conditions may have been a factor in the crash.
