Man Arrested Twice in One Night
bellows falls patchA Barre VT man was arrested twice last Thursday night. Vermont State Police first arrested Dennis Smith for violation of conditions of release for a past charge of possessing cocaine. Later that night Bellows Falls officers arrested Smith after a car he was riding in attempted to avoid police when the driver noticed the cruiser. After a traffic stop, officers learned that Smith was again violating his conditions. Smith was arrested and lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility for lack of $100.00 bail. Smith will appear on March 28, in Windham Superior Criminal Court to answer the charge.

Fish Records Set in VT
Two Record setting fish were caught in Vermont last year. Vermont Fish and Wildlife announced on Friday that two fish caught in 2016 were certified as new state records making the 14 and 15 state records set for individual species of fish since 2010.
John Konya of Bradford caught a new record bluegill in August while fishing with a nightcrawler and silver spinner on Miller Pond in West Fairlee. The bluegill weighted 1.98 lbs. and was 12.25 inches long with a girth of 12.5 breaking the 2008 record of a 1.93 lb. bluegill caught in Lake Champlain.
In August New York angler Joseph Whalen Jr. landed the new Vermont record freshwater drum while fishing in Lake Champlain. The drum weighed 25.54 pounds, measured 34.5 inches in length and was 26.5 inches around at its widest point

Driver Inattention Blamed for Three Car Accident
Driver inattention was the cause of three car accident in Cornish on Saturday afternoon. Cornish Police, Fire and Rescue Squad, Golden Cross Ambulance, New Hampshire State Police and Plainfield Police responded to the accident at the intersection of Route 120 and Clark’ Camp Road. No one was seriously injured.

Incidences at Dartmouth Winter Carnival
Over 43 incidents happened at Dartmouth’s Annual Winter Carnival this past weekend. The polar bear swim and human dogsled race garnered high participation numbers. Five people were taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, six people were taken to Dick’s House and Hanover Police arrested four people. One of the students ran from Safety and Security twice while going to Dick’s House and was caught both times. He later was taken into protective custody by Hanover Police and then transferred to Grafton County jail. There were 11 incidents regarding violations of liquor laws, consistent with previous Winter Carnivals, as there were 15 in 2014, six in 2015 and 11 in 2016. Overall the incident rate was down from 52 from 2016.
