On Sunday December 18, 2016, as a show of support, several Lebanon Police Officers presented a custom Lebanon Police Hockey Jersey to Lebanon High School hockey player Julie Barber. Julie, a defenseman for the Lebanon girl’s hockey team, was recently diagnosed with a grade II astrocytoma, a cancerous tumor inside her spinal cord. As a result, Julie has lost control of her body from the stomach down and she is unlikely to regain the use of her legs.
Lebanon Police Officer Dakota Derego took it upon himself to obtain sponsors to create a custom hockey shirt
adorned with the Lebanon Police Department patch on the front and Julie’s last name on the back. In addition, Officer Derego was able to secure the donation of two gas cards from Jake’s Coffee and a complimentary hotel stay in Boston, so that her family may be close to her while she receives treatment.
The Lebanon Police Department is keeping Julie and her family in our thoughts while she courageously faces these challenges. A Gofundme page has been created to help defray the financial challenges the family is facing. Visit https://www.gofundme.com/help-the-barbers-help-julie?ssid=845088518&pos=1
