Plainfield NH Man Sentenced for Bath Salts Distribution
A Plainfield NH man was sentenced for his role in a bath salts distribution ring. Michael DePalma, 57 was sentenced to 72 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release on Friday in Federal Court. DePalma along with Louis Turcio, 52 of Springfield VT, Andrew Darling 52, of North Walpole, NH, Michael Kline, 44, of Chester VT, and Christine Spaulding, 37, of Bellows Falls, Vermont plead guilty earlier this year to distributing bath salts from March 2014 – June 2015 in the Springfield VT area.
Judge Reiss previously sentenced co conspirators Turcio to 72 months’ imprisonment, Darling to 53 months’ imprisonment, Kline to 36 months’ imprisonment, and Spaulding to 24 months’ imprisonment. In addition, they all received 3 years of supervised release. In a related bath salts case, Chief Judge Reiss sentenced Jesse Emerson of Springfield to 55 months’ imprisonment and five years of supervised release, and Eugenia Emerson of Bellows Falls, Vermont to 49 months’ imprisonment and three years of supervised release.
The FBI, the Vermont Drug Task Force, the Springfield, Vermont Police Department, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the New Hampshire Drug Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Plainfield, New Hampshire Police Department worked on the investigation.
Dr. James Weinstein to Retire
Dr. James N. Weinstein, CEO, and President of Dartmouth-Hitchcock (D-H) and the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health (D-HH) system, will retire on June 30, 2017. Anne-Lee Verville, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Boards Chair made the announcement on Monday.
Dr. Weinstein who assumed the role of CEO and President in 2011 will remain in the role of through the end of his contract. Weinstein will continue his national work with the High Value Healthcare Collaborative, the National Academy of Medicine Board for Population Health, the VA Special Medical Advisory Group, and other organizations he serves.
Bellows Falls Woman Accused of Robbing Mail Boxes
Vermont State Police say a Bellows Falls woman took mail and packages from other people’s mailboxes in three Vermont towns. Police stopped Julia A. McKeen 56, just before 8:30 pm on Friday after police received complaints of a vehicle stopping at several mailboxes in the Andover area. Mckeen was found to be in possession of mail and packages belonging to several people in the Towns of Rockingham, Chester, and Andover. She was also found to be in possession of controlled substance. McKeen was taken into custody and charged with larceny and possession of a controlled substance. McKeen will appear in Windsor Superior Court on Jan. 24, 2017 to answer the charges.
Kentucky Man Accused of Sexual Assault with 14 Year Old
Vermont State Police arrested a 22-year-old Kentucky man for having sex with a 14-year-old female. Police say the incident happened at a party in Bethel in September of this year
Robbins is resident of Kentucky but is routinely in the VT for National Guard duties. Robbins was arrested on Sunday and released with a citation to appear in Windsor County Court on December 6, 2016 to answer the charge of Sexual Assault.
