Heroes Coming to Hanover
The heroes are coming to Hanover this Sunday. The annual CHaD HERO is fun filled community event that raises funds to support the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD) and the care provided in the 15 plus locations throughout New Hampshire and Vermont. About 4,000 people are expected become HEROES on Sunday and the public is invited to participate or watch. The CHaD HERO includes a Half Marathon through Hanover, NH and Norwich, VT. Plus a 5K run and walk, 10K wooded hike, 50-mile bike ride and Cam’s Course 1-mile fun run through Hanover. The races start times are 11:15 am and noon, with racers on course until 3pm. Motorists should note there will be street closures and delays throughout parts of Hanover and Norwich on Sunday. Guilford VT Man and Dog Killed in Crash
A Guilford VT man and his dog lost their lives in a single car accident on Stage Road in Guilford just before 11:30 am on Thursday. Police say Joseph L. Earle 48, was traveling east in his 2009 Toyota Tacoma when it left the road and hit a large tree head on before sliding down an embankment into a brook.
Neighbors went to the scene and found Earle without a pulse. Rescue personal confirmed that Earle was deceased. One dog in the truck had head lacerations and second dog was euthanized after crews extracted him and found he had life threatening injuries.
This investigation is on-going and police as that anyone with information to contact the VT State Police in Westminster at 802-722-4600.
Dianalee Velie Named Newbury NH’s First Poet Laureate
Dianalee Velie is Newbury NH’s First Poet Laureate. Velie is an internationally known poet and has won numerous awards for poetry and was recently appointed by The Newbury Select Board. Velie has been a resident of Newbury for many years and during this time she has run the John Hay Poetry Society which meets at the Newbury library. Chair of the Select Board, Ed Thorson thanked Nancy Marashio who brought the idea forward and said Newbury is proud to have Dianalee Velie as their poet laureate.
Newport Moves Forward with One Financial District
The Town of Newport and the Newport School District are moving forward on plans for a one financial house. School district superintendent Cindy Gallagher said she and Business Manager Terry Wiggins have been crunching numbers for preparation of a meeting with Newport Select Board next week.
The town and school district hope to share some services as well as paying for only one Finance Director.
A meeting to present the plan to public is tentatively scheduled for Monday, Oct. 24 at 6:30 pm in the Lou Thompson room at the Sugar River Valley Regional Technical Center on North Main Street.
