L-R Shambo and Hook

On July 29, 2016 Canaan Police Officers responded to a report of a stolen 1984 Chevrolet Corvette owned by Wayne Shambo of Canaan. After a lengthy investigation, it was determined that Shambo

arranged to have his vehicle stolen so he could fraudulently report the theft to an insurance company for a cash payment. Canaan Police Officers and the Vermont State Police executed a search warrant and the vehicle was recovered in Hartland, Vermont.

On September 17, 2016 Canaan Police Officers arrested Wayne A. Shambo, age 45 of Canaan, New Hampshire for two counts of Insurance Fraud, one count of False Report of a Stolen Vehicle and one count of Tampering with Public Records.

On September 29, 2016 Canaan Police Officers arrested Randy S. Hook, age 43 of Hartland, Vermont for one count of Accomplice to Insurance Fraud and Conspiracy to Commit a False Report of a Stolen Vehicle.

Due to the value of the vehicle, the Insurance Fraud is a Class A Felony and each charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. The other charges are Class A Misdemeanors and each charge carries a maximum sentence of 1 year in jail.

Both Shambo and Hook were released on $10,000 personal recognizance bail to ensure their appearance in the 2nd Circuit Court – District Division – Lebanon on Monday November 28, 2016.

The Canaan Police Department was assisted by the New Hampshire State Police, Vermont State Police, Vermont Probation and Parole and the Progressive Insurance Special Investigations Unit.
