fatal accidentA Charlestown man was killed Monday afternoon after his bicycle collided with a car in Charlestown.  The Charlestown Police Department and the New Hampshire State Police, Troop C, responded the crash on Route 12 near the intersection of Route 12A in Charlestown shortly after 4:00 pm.
The preliminary investigation determined the bicyclist, Lance Torrey, age 50, of Charlestown was traveling north in the breakdown lane on Route 12 when he veered into the northbound travel lane and into the path of a Acura Integra which struck him. The Acura, driven by Jeremiah Lawrence,23, of Claremont. Mr. Torrey was pronounced dead after being transported to the Springfield Hospital. Mr. Lawrence was not injured. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in this collision.
The NH State Police are investigating the accident and were assisted by members of the Charlestown Police Department, and the Charlestown Fire and Rescue Departments. Route 12 was closed and traffic diverted in the area for approximately four hours.
The collision remains under investigation; however, it does not appear that any criminal charges will be filed. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Trooper Charles Newton at 223-8494.
