Lovely Family Sweeps Sugar River Craft Race

lovelyfamilyThe Lovely family was big winners at the 17th Sugar River Craft Race on Saturday. Taking first place and beating the record of 44 minutes were Gavin Lovely and Alex Whipple in the Wet Sandwich. The craft raft however, was not made from bread but from an industrial door. Gavin and Alex attributed their win to using oars.

Gavin’s twins brothers Ryder and Jagger Lovely took second place along with their uncle Ryan McKenney Their craft raft was made from an old barn door and their secret to placing second –paddle hard.

The event that was started by the Newport Recreation Department is now sponsored by Sugar River Softball to benefit the Newport Youth Girl’s Softball. Organizer Jeremy Willey said the craft race runs the same day as the duck race and they raised about $6,000 this year.


Convicted Sex Offender Apprehended

A convicted sex offender who was wanted for escape from the Springfield VT Department of Corrections was apprehended on Saturday. Dale Adams Jr was spotted on Connecticut River Road in White River Junction and taken into custody without incident by the Hartford Police Department. Adams was turned over to the Department of Corrections who transported him to the Southern State Correctional Center in Springfield. Adams is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, May 17 at 12:30 pm.

Chesterfield Man Arrested on Three Counts in Forgery

A Chesterfield man was arrested on three counts of forgery on Friday for altering $20.00 bills to $100.00 bills.  Keene Police say after an investigation they applied for a search warrant for Peter Giandalone’s person and residence on Thursday night. During the search, they seized   computer, printer, chemicals, and other items.

Giandalone is accused of using the fraudulent bills a T-Bird, CVS, and Circle K stores in Keene earlier this month.

On Friday morning with the assistance of the Chesterfield Police, Peter Giandalone was taken into custody without incident.  Giandalone is being held at the Cheshire County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail. His will appear in Cheshire Superior Court today (Monday) at 1pm.
