Questions on Claremont’s Soup Kitchen Go Unanswered
claremont soup kitchenThe Sept. 28, Board of Director’s Meeting for Claremont’s Soup Kitchen, was closed to the public and the press according to Board President Sue Lawrence. Community members and the press were seeking answers to the allegations that surfaced early today in a letter to the NH Attorney General asking for the agency to look into various allegations.
Allegations of drinking, selling and using narcotic pills by volunteers, unfair employment practices, and a power struggle between Sue Lawrence and former Finance director Jan Brunnell are plaguing the Board of Directors of the Claremont Soup Kitchen. Melissa Norton – The temporary financial manager who was hired on Aug 4, 2015 and let go earlier this month wrote the letter outlining numerous infractions to the non-profit’s bylaws.
President of the Board Sue Lawrence said the public is welcome to attend its October meeting.

Newport Man Arrested for Child Porn
A Newport man was arrested on Monday for possession of child pornography. Newport Police say they executed a search warrant at 8 Roseland Road in Newport NH and arrested 49-year-old Allen Langlois. Computers and storage devices were seized during the search. In an interviewed at the scene, Langlois made admissions to using the internet to access websites of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct and saving the images to his computer.
The charge of possession of child sexual abuse images is a class A Felony and punishable by imprisonment in excess of 7 years.
Langlois was released after posting $10,000 cash bail Langlois will be arraigned at the 5th Circuit-District Division-Newport Court on November 17, 2015 at 0815 hours.

Hiker Rescued Off Mt. Kearsarge
Wilmot Fire and Rescue, Sutton Fire and Rescue, and New London Fire and two Fish and Game Conservation Officers rescued a Northwood NH woman off of Mt Kearsarge on Sunday. Officials say Janet Makarewicz sustained a lower leg injury after twisting her leg while falling on the Winslow Trail while with a companion. Rescuers carried Mrs. Makarewicz out without event and transported to New London Hospital.
Mrs. Makarewicz expressed her thanks for the timely response by so many different rescue crews. New Hampshire Fish and Game reminds hikers to dress appropriately for the changing weather and the soon approaching end of daylight saving time.

Croydon School Board Meeting
The Croydon School Board has scheduled a meeting for Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 6:00 pm. The meeting was announced on Sunday in order to be prepared for any legal action that the NH Board of Education may take against the Croydon School District. Members of the public are encouraged to attend.

Emu Returns Home
An emu that had been on the loose in New Hampshire is now back home at a farm in Vermont. The “Concord Monitor” reports the owner heard about the emu running wild throughout the state, but figured it couldn’t be his bird. Despite being unsure, the man drove over an hour to a nonprofit in Henniker to see for himself. The manager of the bird rehabilitation center said it was immediately clear that the bird belonged to the man because the emu recognized him.

Keurig Kold Goes on Sale Today
Waterbury,VT Keurig Green Mountain officially enters the cold beverage industry today. The Waterbury-based company is beginning to sell its cold soda and beverage machine Keurig Kold to the public today. Coca Cola invested over a billion-dollars in the development of the product, and Coke is one of the drinks available for the machine. The cost of a machine starts at 369-dollars, but company officials say it’s a small price to bring a small bottling plant into the home.
