Flagger Hit By Bethel Man

VT state police patchA Bethel VT man working as a flagger on VT Route 12 was sent to the hospital after a being hit by a car. Police say Justin Morse 35, was on the north end of the construction zone when northbound traffic was moved into the southbound lane Fred Chatfield 63, also of Bethel drove his 2003 Buick through the construction zone, but failed to move back into the northbound lane. Morse tried to jump out of Chatfield’s way before being struck by the car. Morse was taken to Gifford Medical Center for treatment of a leg injury. Chatfield was cited for Negligent Operation.

Mustache Contest Returns to Newport

The Mustache Contest is returning for Newport for its 100th Winter Carnival in February. In 2011, Newport shattered the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most entered into a mustache and beard contest.
. The 462 participants represented every state in New England. This year’s contest will also include beards. Newport wants to break the record again and encourage everyone to join in the fun to start growing their beard, goatees, muttonchops, mustaches or whatever else you can grow now. To enter the contest, just show up the day of the event (Feb 6th) and sign in.

Paying off Credit Cards is Biggest Financial Challenge for NH

The biggest finance challenge for NH residents is paying of credit cards according to an online survey by GOBankingRates a personal finance website. Vermonters said their biggest challenge was saving for retirement. The company asked residents in all 50 States and the District of Columbia what their biggest financial challenge was and gave the following options:
• Planning for retirement
• Saving for a home
• Saving up an emergency fund
• Sticking to a budget
• Building an investment portfolio
• Paying for higher education
• Paying off credit cards
Overall, 1 in 5 Americans said sticking to a budget is their biggest challenge and another 1 in 5 report planning for retirement is their focus.
