Claremont Woman Killed While Walking
A Claremont woman was killed and a Newport man critically injured, after being hit by van on Charlestown Road just after 8 pm on Friday. Police say the 2008 GMC Savana Van was traveling north when it hit the couple that was walking. Christa Osgood 44, a single mother was pronounced dead at the scene. Kenneth Lavigne, 45 was transported to Valley Regional with life threatening injuries and transferred to DHMC where he is stable condition. Police have not released the name of the driver, but say he is cooperating. The accident remains under investigation by the Claremont Police Department with assistance from the New Hampshire Sate Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit, Sullivan County Attorney’s Office and the New Hampshire Medical Examiner’s Office.
Hartford VT Man Injured in Roll Over
A Hartford VT man was injured in a single vehicle accident on I-91 just after 4 am on Saturday. Police say Ronald H. Mitchell 62 totaled his 2014 Ford Box Truck when he left the road and went into the ledges in the median at mile marker 33 in Rockingham. Mitchell was transported to DHMC for injuries to his head and chest. The crash is still under investigation.
Bellows Falls Man Drives Wrong Way on I-91
A Bellows Falls VT man is charged with Driving Under the Influence and Gross Negligent Operation after he drove south in the northbound of I-91 for over 10 miles. Vermont State Police say they received numerous 911 calls about the pickup traveling in the wrong direction. The driver was first reported at mile marker 34 in Rockingham. Troopers made contact with the truck and it continued to travel to Westminster where it crossed over the median and continued until Troopers stopped 74-year-old Richard Hewey. Hewey was found to have consumed intoxicants and provided a preliminary breath test, which indicated his BAC was approximately 0.098%. A civil amount of marijuana was located inside of the vehicle. He will appear in Windham Court on Sept. 22.
Claremont Man and Charlestown Woman Face Drug Charges
Vermont State Police arrested a Claremont man and two Charlestown women on drug charges early Thursday morning at the Springfield VT Holiday Inn. Police say they conducted a search of the room rented by Willie Taylor 41, of Claremont. Police found Taylor in possession of several varieties of bath salts, synthetic marijuana, prescription Diazapam, powder Fentanyl and marijuana. Nicole Hooper-Reed 30, who was staying in the room was found to be in the possession of several bags of bath salts, synthetic marijuana and prescription Subutex. Angel Hammerele 29, also staying in the room was also in possession of bath salts and prescription Suboxone. Taylor, Hammerele and Hooper-Reed were all issued citations to appear in Windsor County Superior Criminal Court on Oct 13 to answer the charges.
Dartmouth Professor Charged with Child Porn Possession
According to the Valley News, a Dartmouth College professor is out on $10,000 personal recognizance bail after being arraigned on charges of possessing child sex abuse videos. J. Martin Favor an English and African American Studies Professor at the college where he has been employed for 22 years. Favor was arrested at his Plainfield NH home on Thursday. The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program oversaw the investigation with Homeland Security and New Hampshire State Police.
Dartmouth says Martin was placed on paid administrative leave and is banned from campus.
The College has already battened down the hatches by closing Access to Favor’s faculty page.
Favor’s probable cause hearing is slated for September 14.
