Route 4 Bridge to Open
The NH DOT says the new US Route 4 Bridge over the Mascoma River in Lebanon is expected to open this week. Work on the bridge will continue with the removal of the old bridge and construction of remaining drainage this fall.
After the traffic shift to the new bridge there will be ongoing road reconstruction on the west approach of Route 4 which will require one way alternating traffic daily from 8:30 am -3:30 pm. Drivers should plan for delays.
Bomb Squad Called to Vermont Residence
The Vermont State Police Bomb Squad was called to West Road residence in Vernon VT just before 9 pm Wednesday night. Windham County Sheriff’s office called the squad in after they went to the scene for a report of an “old explosive device” that was found while cleaning out the property. The bomb squad determined the device was non-explosive but West Road was closed at the Sak Road intersection for approximately five hours.
Sunapee Now Has Medication Drop Off Box
The Sunapee Police Department now has a Medication Drop Box located in the Sunapee Safety Services Building lobby. The Drop Box provides the public with an environmentally safe, accessible and convenient alternative to disposing of pharmaceutical drugs in the landfill or sewer systems that may affect the environment.
It also encourages individuals to dispose of expired or unwanted pharmaceutical drugs to reduce access to addictive drugs for accidental or intentional misuse by individuals, especially children in the home.
People who utilize this box are not required to disclose any personal information.
Fairlee VT Man Faces Multiple Charges
A Fairlee VT man is in custody on multiple charges after he caused a car to spin out of control on I-91 in Norwich Monday night. Vermont State Police say a Derby VT Trooper was traveling south when she saw a Toyota Camry spin out of control and leave the road. Troopers from Bradford responded to the scene and learned the passenger 21 year-old Justin Hayes had punched the windshield cracking it in several places during an argument with a female driver. Hayes also pulled the emergency brake while the car was traveling at interstate speed. Troopers arrested Hayes for Domestic Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Mischief, and Negligent Operation of a Vehicle. Probation and Parole officers later took Hayes in custody for violating his probation. Hayes is due in Windsor Criminal Court on the 15th of this month.
