Florida Man Killed in I-91 Crash
Mason MorrisetteA Florida man was killed and a Maine man arrested after a tractor-trailer accident on I-91 in Norwich VT yesterday. Police say David Stefanik 54, of Shalimar, FL was driving north in a tractor trailer when a tire went flat. Stefanik stopped in the breakdown lane and put hazard markers behind the truck. While he was standing at the rear driver side of the truck, a fully loaded logging truck driven by Mason Morissette sideswiped Stefanik and his tractor-trailer killing Stefanik. Mason Morissette was arrested for Grossly Negligent Operation with Fatality resulting and released on a citation. He will appear in Criminal court on Tuesday September 29, 2015 at 8:00 am.

 

Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Bradford NH
A motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene after a crash on 367 West Road in Bradford NH just after 6:30 am on Monday morning. Police say neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family. The Bradford Fire and Rescue, Bradford Police, Henniker Ambulance and the NH Medical Examiner were on the scene. Police were there for several hours.

Newport Fire-EMS Responds to Skidder Fire
Newport Fire – EMS called a first alarm for a skidder fire Monday morning. Officials say that after they arrived at East Mountain Road after arriving at the wooded East Mountain Road. Crews hiked ½ mile into the woods to access the situation with fire extinguishers to keep the fire from spreading. Newport requested off-road equipment from Lempster Fire Department, Sunapee NH Fire-Rescue, and Newbury along with Goshen Fire Department forestry units to the scene. Newport crews in with multiple fire extinguishers to contain the fire from spreading to the surrounding woods. Once mutual aid arrived with off-road equipment firefighters were able to attack the fire using forestry hoses and pumps.

Howard is New Bus Director for Newport Schools
Arnold Howard is Newport School District’s bus director. Superintendent Cindy Gallagher made the announcement at last night’s SAU meeting. Howard has been working as interim director since Chad Howe resigned abruptly on June 8, 2015 after bus drivers complained about the administration hiring Howe to replace long time bus manager Dianne Callum in March.
Chad Howe was recently re hired as Technology Coordinator by Business Administrator Terry Wiggins.
