VT Woman Being Arraigned Today
A Vermont woman killed three relatives and a social worker on Friday after she lost custody of her daughter. Police allege that 40-year-old Jody Herring shot her Aunt Julianne Falzarano, and cousins Regina Herring and Rhonda Herring before killing social service worker Lara Sobel as she was leaving work Friday afternoon.
Bystanders tackled Jody Herring outside the Barre Department for Children and Families office and until police arrived and took her into custody. It was not until Saturday morning the bodies of Jody Herring’s Aunt and cousins were discovered in their Berlin VT residence. The deceased were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy to determine cause and manner of death. Initial observations by police indicated shell casings at the scene and apparent gunshot wounds on at least two of the victims.
Governor Shumlin ordered the Vermont flag to be lowered to half-staff Monday through Wednesday at all state, federal and public buildings in honor of Sobel. Herring is being arraigned this afternoon.
