A lightning strike caused a fire in a Lebanon condominium shortly after 4 pm yesterday afternoon. Fire Chief Chris Christopoulos said when firefighters arrived at the #302 unit at 27 Rio Vista there was no signs of fire on the outside of the two and an half story structure. The property manager reported multiple units with electrical circuit breakers tripped and fire fighters noticed two scorch marks and damaged siding on the front of the building near the attic space above and a slight odor of burning wood was notice in the rear of the building.
When fire personal entered the attic area in unit 302 they found fire burning. The call was upgraded to a First Alarm and was under control just before 6 pm. The fire caused heavy damage to several roof rafters and to the blown-in cellulose insulation in the attic. Damage is estimated to be $50,000.
The cause was determined to be from a lightning strike, all occupants were allowed to return to their units, and no one received injuries.
