Hollywood Sentenced to 3-7 Years
jason hollywoodJason Hollywood 36 was sentenced to 3-7 years in NH State prison in Sullivan Superior Court on Wednesday. Hollywood made a plea agreement on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, and a felon in possession of a firearm stemming from a drug bust at his Myrtle Street residence in March. Each charge carries a 3-7 years sentence and Hollywood will serve them concurrently less 118 days already served. Hollywood also received a 5 year suspended sentence for possession of morphine. A remorseful Hollywood told Judge Brian Tucker the meth cost 12.00 to make and he did it to help with the dope sickness he had from heroin addiction, Hollywood said he can’t forgive himself; he put his family, his neighbors and his landlord at risk and ruined his life and his family.

VSP Seek Help With Park and Ride Accident
Vermont State Police are seeking help with an accident that occurred in the Bradford Park and Ride on Tuesday. Police say that between 7:30 am and 6:00 pm a vehicle collided with Ina McKinney’s parked and unoccupied 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Jeep sustained minor passenger side damage. Anyone with information about the crash or the identity of the operator is urged to call the State Police in Bradford at 802-222-4680.

Newport Loses WWII Hero
Newport loss a longtime resident and WWII Hero. A church service to honor Newcomb “Newc” Eldredge will be on Sunday, Aug 1 at 2:00 pm at Newport’s South Congregational Church. Mr. Eldredge a former Newport Business man and WWII hero passed last Saturday. Eldredge was a member of the skiing soldiers of WWII in the 10th Mountain Division and received two Bronze Stars for bravery in the bloody battle for Mount Belvedere where he helped take out two German machine gun nests, and was one of the first American forces to capture the strategic summit.
Newc moved to Newport in 1957 with his wife Sally and established McCrillis and Eldredge Insurance, Inc. of Newport, New Hampshire.
Eldredge held several elective and appointive leadership positions with the South Congregational Church of Newport. He was also a past president of the Newport Rotary Club and former district chair of the Daniel Webster Council, Boy Scouts of America. Additionally, Eldredge served on numerous insurance association committees and Dartmouth College alumni committees. He continued is long involvement with the National Association of the 10th Mountain Division serving as president of the New England Chapter from 1978-1980 and National Secretary from 1981 to 1987. He also served the Association as film historian and archivist.

The Newport Board of Selectmen invites citizens and members of the business community to “Meet the Manager” on Monday, July 20, 2015 from 4-6:00pm. Shane O’Keefe, Newport’s newly named Town Manager, and the Board of Selectmen will be under the tent adjacent to the Old Courthouse Restaurant to greet citizens on an informal basis prior to Mr. O’Keefe’s official start on July 27, 2015.
