When Will The Charlestown Bridge Be Closed?
Residents of Charlestown NH and Springfield VT are not looking forward to having the RT 11 Bridge closed for five days. Worse yet, residents on both sides of the river are still waiting for word on when the bridge will be closed so they make plan for detours. Bill Boyton NHDOT Public Information Officer said in an email that there is no specific timetable yet for a full closure of the bridge. According to the NHDOT’s Bridge Design Bureau, “The Bridge will be closed for approximately 5 days after the Contractor is finished his deck repairs and replacing joints. The Contractor has the choice to do this closure at the end of the month or to wait until spring. As of right now, we are still not sure.” Detours during the closure will be over the Church Street Bridge in Walpole, and the NH Route 12 and 103 Bridge in Claremont. Approximately 6,400 cars per day use the bridge.
