City Manager Donates Prized Memorabilia
For his last act as Lebanon City Manager Greg Lewis donated his archival prized photos to the Lebanon Soldiers Memorial Building. Lewis gave cherished photos his Vietnam War experience in addition to his framed awards for national service, and a bronze stars for valor and bravery in combat.
Lewis donated his memorabilia to inspire fellow veterans of the Vietnam, Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan wars to visit the Soldiers Memorial Building and make it their place for sharing in comradeship with the veterans that served so well before them. If you have not visited the Soldiers’ Memorial Building, it is located across from green in Lebanon and will be open for tours on July 4, starting at 5:30-9:00 pm.
Public Hearing on Westminster Bridge Planned
A combined meeting for Public Officials and Public Information hearing on the renovations on the Westminster Bridge will be on Thursday July 9, 2015 at 5:00 pm. The meeting will present details on the proposed bridge deck rehabilitation. The Westminster Bridge carries NH Route 123 over the Connecticut River between Walpole, NH and Westminster VT.
Personal Fireworks Prohibited in VT
A reminder that all fireworks, NOT including sparklers and novelty devices, are illegal in Vermont except for permitted, supervised public fireworks displays.
The chiefs of the police and fire departments of municipalities having displays require a permit. The sale, possession, use and distribution of fireworks are legal only after the permit is granted. Applications for a permit must be made at least 15 days in advance of the fireworks display.
VSP Tactical Support Unit Return Home
The Vermont State Police Tactical Support Unit is home to stay, now that escaped convict David Sweat has been captured. The Tactical Unit returned home from their deployment to NY early Saturday evening with the understanding they would return if needed to help capture Sweat. It was last Sunday when the unit went to help with the search for Richard Matt and David Sweat who busted out of Dannemora Prison on June 6. A border patrol agent shot Matt dead on Friday and on Sunday NY State Police Sgt. Jay Cook shot and captured Sweat.VSP Director Colonel Tom L’Esperance thanked the Unit for their dedication and service in very difficult and stressful conditions.
Sunapee Lions’ Car Show Rescheduled
The Sunapee Lions car show that was planned for yesterday at Mt. Sunapee has been rescheduled because of the heavy rain. It was the first time in the event’s history the event has been postponed. The car show is rescheduled for September 13, with a rain date of September 20.
