Bellows Falls Man Faces Multiple Heroin Charges
bellows falls patchA Bellows Falls man was arrested on multiple heroin drug charges just before 11:30 am on Tuesday. Police say they arrested Nicholas G. Bennett on three counts of felony possession, and three counts of felony sale of heroin. In addition Bennett was also charged with misdemeanor possession of heroin. The arrest comes from an ongoing investigation and continued efforts to curb the distribution of heroin in the Bellows Falls area. Bennett was ordered held on $5000 cash or surety bond and was held at the Southern State Correctional Facility for lack of bail.

Springfield VT Man Arrested for NH Auto Theft
fugitive from justiceA Springfield VT man was arrested just after 8:30 pm on Wednesday on an active arrest warrant. Police say they received information that Rodney Stone 31, had an active arrest warrant. Police located Stone and discovered he was wanted for extradition to NH for felony theft of a motor vehicle. After confirmation of the extradition was received, police took Stone into custody without incident. Stone is lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash or surety bail and will be arraigned in Windsor Superior Court on Thursday.

Newport Historical Society is Mortgage Free
historical societyThe Newport Historical Society made their own historical moment last night, with their final payment to ECON for their Museum on Central Street. Jackie Cote said it was just about 4 years ago they signed the papers.
Prior to the Society moving the museum was located above the Old Court House Restaurant. Cote says they still use that building but it is for storage.
The historical society celebrated their mortgage pay off Wednesday night by hosting the Newport Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours. Each month the organization hold special events and you learn more about them by visiting

New London Votes to Return to March Meeting
New London is going back to a March Town Meeting. At last night’s town meeting New London, residents voted 155-35 to move the meeting back to the traditional March date. All warrant articles passed with an increase to one.
Article #7 for New London Hospital Ambulance was increased to $78,775 to cover increased costs to address lack of Newport Ambulance Service for backup.
