Charlestown Woman Tied Up and Robbed.
A 60 year old Charlestown NH woman was robbed and tied up in her basement on Sunday night. Police say the woman was surprised by two male intruders at her River road home when she let her dog outside shortly before 11 pm. The intruders took jewlery, gold and silver coins and bars.
The woman was tied up for more than 9 hours and was found by a contractor doing work on her home on Monday morning. Because of an exisiting medical condition the victim was in critial condition and taken to Valley Regional Hospital where she is in stable condition. The suspects are believed to be white males, possibly in the their twenties or early thirties. Dry Weather Causes Challenges for Fire Fighters
The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation issued a ban on burn permits on Tuesday. The ban goes through May 19 unless weather conditions change. The action comes after reports of 25 wild fires in Vermont on Monday and early Tuesday.
On Monday Norwich firefighters were busy with large brush fire affecting 137 acre in the Pondunk and Tiger Town Road area that started in afternoon and went on until after dark. Chester and Andover VT Fire Departments were on the scene of a 5-Alarm brush fire that was started from a logging operation and and also burned an airplane hangar. Over 20 Fire Departments, 3 ambulance services, 36 pieces of fire apparatus, and 125 firefighters stayed on the scene until after nightfall, but Chester and Andover remained and fought various breakouts throughout the night. On Tuesday morning 50 Fire Department returned to continue the firefight until 2:30 pm on Tuesday. Lebanon NH has also stopped issuing burn permits due to the dry weather conditions.
Randolph VT Man Charged with Aggravated Assault
A Randolph VT man is charged with Aggravated Assault with a weapon, and false information to a police office. Police say Spencer Bence, 32, struck Christian Hahn’s car and forced him off Peth Road in Randolph on Tuesday. Bence was taken into custody and is schedule to appear in Orange County Court on June 24 to answer the charges.
Barton Whitney Road Will Be Detour for Oak Bridge Project.
Barton Whitney Road will be used as the detour for all vehicles 6-Tons and over for North Newport during the Oak Street Bridge replacement. Vehicles that are less than 6 Tons will be able to use Corbin Bridge. Concerns were raised about the wear and tear on Blueberry Ridge Road by heavy trucks. Bill MacDonald a Blueberry Ridge Road resident said the increase in traffic will make a bad road worse
Superintendent of public works, Larry Wiggins will ask if the state will pay to make the needed improvements to the road for the detour. The bridge work is slated for 2018 and will go from approximately March – December.
